Preparation and Characterization of Sulfonated Carbon Cryogel Doped Zinc as a Catalyst for Glucose Ethanolysis to Ethyl Levulinate

In this study, sulfonated carbon cryogel (CC) doped with zinc was prepared and used as a solid catalyst. Carbon by mixing urea furfural, freeze-drying, calcination. The CC then impregnated (II) nitrate for ethyl levulinate production from ethanolysis of glucose. Experiment results showed that different types catalyst precursor had catalytic effects on the Sulfonated (SCC-Zn) which at calcination temperature 300 °C better performance reaction addition, 10 wt.% Zn recommended optimum loading impregnation yield 19.6 mol% obtained 180 6 h 0.15 g 0.4 glucose feed. selected SCC-Zn further characterized using FTIR, TGA XRD, SEM-EDX to evaluate its physical chemical properties
